Calling all PSAC North women in the North . . .

If you want to tackle issues affecting women and work for positive change, we’re your committee.

Add your voice and ideas and help make change for women in and out of the workplace.

You don’t have to be in Yellowknife to join. Our conference call meetings can easily accommodate you – no matter where you live.

Let’s organize events and initiatives to ensure an end to violence against women, access to public not-for-profit child care, strong public services, pay equity, an end to poverty, job security and equality in everything.

Our Mandate

The objectives of the PSAC North Regional Women’s Committee are to identify, promote and assist union actions by

Educating, politicizing and mobilizing women by making links between themselves, the union, the workplace, the community and equality rights
We do this by empowering, uniting and engaging all women to take action and move the Womens’ Rights agenda forward.

Stay connected to the issues . . . and the solutions

We participate in conferences, educational and training programs on Women’s issues
Ensure and promote representation of Women members, their issues and equality goals in the various union bodies, programs and social justice groups
Sit on the National Human Rights Committee and other PSAC National and Regional bodies . . . and much more.

Events Across the North on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

On December 6, communities across Canada held vigils and events. It has been 30 years since the tragic mass shooting at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal (December 6, 1989) that saw the promising lives of 14 young women cut violently short. December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Yellowknife's first Family Violence Awareness Month Solidarity March

Members of PSAC North NWT Regional Women’s Committee joined Yellowknife's first Family Violence Awareness Month Solidarity March on November 6. Yukon: She/Ze Leads the World

She/Ze Leads the World - Yukon’s first ever Women’s Leadership Summit may be the next step in your leadership journey: a leadership summit for northern women taking place on November 19 and 21, 2019. With two jam-packed days of panels, inspiring keynote speakers and breakout sessions, you’ll learn from female leaders from across Canada who have used their passion and determination to drive their success. With off-site events and our Mentor One-2-One Hour, you’ll have the opportunity to meet like-minded peers and work through your challenges with strong senior leaders.

Sisters in Spirit-- Whitehorse

Each year on October 4th communities across Canada come together to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. PSAC North Yukon Regional Indigenous Peoples Committee and Whitehorse Regional Women's Committee sponsored the Sisters in Spirit in Whitehorse event by providing refreshments to participants. The event and vigil was organized by Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council on October 4th, 2019.

PSAC North NWT Regional Indigenous Peoples Committee and Women's Committee partnered to sponsor the Sisters in Spirit luncheon on October 11.The luncheon was organized by the Native’s Women’s Association of the Northwest Territories.

PSAC North Regional Council Face to Face Meeting (September 2019)

Members of PSAC North Regional Council met in Iqaluit. The three day meeting included important discussions about campaigns and upcoming regional convention, strategy sessions, website and media orientation, and a presentation by guest speakers including Anne Tennier, President of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety. Mumilaaq Qaqqaq took us through a journey in history with her presentation about Inuit history and life before and after colonization.

The Yukon's Women Committee Celebrated International Women's Day

PSAC North Yukon Regional Women's Committee gathered items to provide 25 starter baskets to the Yukon Women's Transition Homes. Each basket was filled with the basics to start a new home such as dishes, detergent, paper products, utensils, kitchen supplies including a pot, fry pan, measuring cups, oven mitts and dish towels. Items were sponsored by Canadian Tire and the Great Canadian Dollar Store. PaintMate Decorating Services assisted with pick up of the items.

The NWT's Women Committee Celebrates International Women's Day

The PSAC North NWT Regional Women’s Committee is celebrating International Women’s Day by delivering bags with personal care items to women and youth shelters in Yellowknife. The committee is sending out bags to other communities: Hay River, Fort Smith, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk. NWT Women’s Committee thanks all members, volunteers and sponsors. Sponsors:

Forum on Domestic Violence

On December 11, the NWT Regional Women's Committee held an engaging forum on domestic violence. Rebecca Thompson, PSAC North's Grievance Officer was guest speaker.
