PSAC North Regional Council

Our structure

The PSAC North Regional Council is our highest decision-making body that brings together duly elected or appointed representatives from all three territories.

The Regional Executive Vice-President (REVP North) chairs the Regional Council and is the political voice for the PSAC in the Yukon, NWT and Nunavut.

PSAC North is also composed of (3) Area Councils, one for each territory and (3) Territorial Directors.

Committees are also an important part of our structure. There are 8 committees in each territory: Indigenous Peoples, Access, Pride, Women's, Racially Visible, Health & Safety, Youth and the Regional Alliance Facilitators Network.

The North Regional Council is composed of the chairs of each committee in the North. All positions on the North Regional Council are elected from among the membership. The Regional Executive Vice President is a full-time paid position. All other members of the council work in jobs represented by the union and serve the union as volunteers. In addition to chairing the North Regional Council, the REVP represents the North on the Alliance Executive Committee, the body that runs the union nationally.

The Regional Councils meets at least three times a year to strategize on issues that affect PSAC members in the North.

PSAC North's Regional Council's role, as defined in the PSAC North By-Laws, is to:

Manage the business of PSAC North between its Triennial Conventions; and
Establish regulations to guide the operations of PSAC North.

PSAC North Regional Committees help to guide our union and protect the interests of our members. Many of today’s leaders developed their skills, abilities and talents on a committee. They not only educated themselves but became an invaluable resource to local members, components and PSAC National.

If you are passionate about one (or more!) of the issues that our regional committees focus on, you will find a warm welcome awaits you. Activists are the heart of our union – of any union – and your involvement will help ensure that our union and the labour movement continue to thrive.

The 29th Constitutional Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC)

The 29th Constitutional Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) will be held from Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The PSAC will be fully funding up to fourteen delegates to represent PSAC’s five equity groups: women, Indigenous peoples, racially visible peoples, persons with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ2+ communities. In addition to equity groups, the PSAC will fully fund up to seven young worker delegates.

Together, we can End Period Poverty

In a nutshell, 'period poverty' refers to having a lack of access to sanitary products due to financial constraints. It has been called a great barrier to equality and low income, homeless and marginalized women bear the brunt of it.

Events Across the North on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

On December 6, communities across Canada held vigils and events. It has been 30 years since the tragic mass shooting at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal (December 6, 1989) that saw the promising lives of 14 young women cut violently short. December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Yellowknife's first Family Violence Awareness Month Solidarity March

Whitehorse: Beaded Poppy Workshop

Take a Moment for Safety

PSAC North NWT Regional Health and Safety Committee organized an Outreach series of events: “Take a Moment for Safety.” It involved meeting people on Market Days at Somba K’e Park in Yellowknife. Each person was asked for a safety tip that they would live by. Adults and children shared insights on on how to stay safe.

Orange Shirt Beading Workshop-- Whitehorse

In the spirit of reconciliation, PSAC North Yukon Regional Indigenous Peoples Committee organized Orange Shirt beading workshop on September 28 and 29. The event was open to all: Indigenous and non-Indigenous PSAC members, supporters and allies. Jayla Rousseau Thomas facilitated the workshop. The event led to important discussions about Orange Shirt Day and its origin. Every Child Matters buttons were provided to participants and they all went away with their beaded Orange Shirt pins.
