Bullying is a crisis that must be dealt with urgency   Students and workers from coast to coast to coast in Canada mark Pink Shirt Day to raise awareness on the urgency of putting an end to bullying in our communities, schools, workplaces and everywhere. Needless to say, this year, Pink Shirt Day is different.

PSAC North NWT Women's Regional Committee would like to thank all members and volunteers for helping out during the Warming from the Heart Clothing Drive. With your generosity, the committee was able to deliver at least 70 winter kits and bags of toques and socks that will help women, men and children who need them during this cold weather.  Donations were delivered to Street Outreach Program, Side Door Youth Shelter, RCMP, Fire Division and Emergency Department.

Orange Shirt Day (September 30) is dedicated to commemorating the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.    On this day, and every day, PSAC North continues to be committed to work for true reconciliation with Indigenous communities.     Together, let’s come in the spirit of reconciliation, hope and care for one another.    Take Action!

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada North participated in a number of events throughout the North marking the fourth anniversary of the failed Phoenix pay system on February 27.  As work to stabilize Phoenix continues, PSAC members are still suffering its fallout. Endless payroll problems place a heavy burden on families.

SHOW SUPPORT FOR YOUR BARGAINING TEAM Conciliation meetings between PSAC/UNW and the City of Yellowknife are taking place June 9, 10 and 11, 2020. Your bargaining team is grateful for the support you have shown so far, and we encourage you to continue doing so, especially in the week ahead of and during conciliation. Travel mugs and coffee mugs will be distributed by the bargaining team. Use them in the workplace and during videoconferences to show support for your bargaining team. I’d like to take this time to express my support to all those peacefully protesting the death of George Floyd. Like most, I found the images that have been circulating horrifying. I sat in disbelief as this despicable and heinous crime was committed with such callousness. Violence and racism everywhere needs to stop. As an organization, the PSAC North has always been committed to a shared vision of inclusiveness and respect. We will continue to press the fight and shine the light on violence and racism.

PSAC North Regional Indigenous Committee in the Yukon organized a beading workshop on April 18 and 25. Jayla Rousseau-Thomas facilitated the two, two-hour long online sessions in which participating members learned how to bead. Each participant worked towards completing a pin to be given to a frontline worker in honour of their important role during the pandemic.
