You might be too busy today, or you might just be taking a break— we all need some ‘me’ time. Northwest Territories Regional Indigenous Peoples’ Committee donated $1000 to the North Slave Métis Alliance for June 21st Fish Fry at Somba K’e Civic Plaza. PSAC North and the committee looks forward to the celebrations. Wherever you are, find out where the day is being celebrated, participate and volunteer.

By Jack Bourassa    International Women’s Day (IWD), March 8, is around the corner and I’m eagerly counting the days. As a man celebrating this day, I am aware that I am an ally. At the same time, I believe that we are all affected. To all my sisters: this is your day, let’s celebrate it together. Let’s remind ourselves of the victories achieved, take a deep breath and smile with gratitude and thank all women who are struggling to make this world better for all of us whether in our families, workplaces, communities, nationally and internationally.

Students, wearing pink t-shirts, gathered at the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife on February 27 to participate in National Anti-Bullying Day, known as Pink Shirt Day. In addition to Yellowknife, students from Behchoko and N’Dilo also participated in Pink Shirt Day events. Jack Bourassa, Regional Executive Vice President for PSAC North and Hon. Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment shared their insights with participants and guests. Students presented and shared their vision on how to eliminate bullying.

PSAC North regional women’s committees and volunteers participated at, attended and/or co-sponsored events on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Iqaluit, Whitehorse and Yellowknife. Commemorating December 6 by holding vigils and events continues to be an opportunity to speak out against all forms of violence against women.

NWT Women’s Committee donated to the Family Support Centre Shelter located in Hay River. The committee would like to thank Quality Furniture for free shipping to airport and Buffalo Air Express for free shipping to Hay River.
