PSAC North Yukon Regional Women’s Committee members came together on Saturday, February 8th to assemble 25 baskets containing essential household items such as mugs, glasses, cooking utensils, etc. for the Whitehorse Transition Home.
Women’s Committee would like to thank all members and volunteers who made this possible. The committee received a donation from Local Y017 of the Yukon Employees’ Union.
The baskets are given to women that are starting their lives over, after fleeing domestic violence. The centre provides affordable and secure housing for up to 18 months as well as support programs. The centre in Whitehorse is called Betty's Haven. It's named after a Gwich'in Elder, Betty Sjodin who worked as a women's advocate for more than 30 years.
