PSAC North Nunavut Regional Women’s Committee Planned an Event for International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2020. Best laid plans for this event were cancelled because of a Blizzard that arrived on March 7 and stayed till March 9th with 1/8-mile visibility
However, members of the Committee had the opportunity on Saturday night, March 7, to attend IWD celebration at the Black Heart Café sponsored by the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council.
The event was opened with the lighting of the Qulliq by Mary-Lee Aliyak that told the story of how the Quilliq was used in the home and out on the land.
The event Featured songs from Rachel Michael and throat-singing by Leanna Wilson and Tooma Laisa.
The walls were transposed into an Art Gallery featuring amazing photos from the communities.
