Women's Committee in Northwest Territories

  The Northwest Territories Regional Women’s Committee would like to invite all PSAC women to join them at their General Meeting,  Tuesday, March 10, 2020 @ 5:30 p.m. at the North Star Building, Suite 201, 4910 – 53rd Street, Yellowknife Regional Office Boardroom.

  Do you have a purse, in good condition, that you no longer use? PSAC North NWT Women’s Committee is collecting purses that will be filled with toiletries and donated to all women’s shelters in the NWT on March 8 for International Women’s Day.   You can drop purses off at the PSAC North office (4910-53rd Street - Suite # 201), Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  

  The Northwest Territories Regional Women’s Committee would like to invite all PSAC women to join them at their General Meeting,  Tuesday, February 18, 2020 @ 5:30 p.m. at the North Star Building, Suite 201, 4910 – 53rd Street, Yellowknife Regional Office Boardroom. We will be preparing the purses with products to be donated to shelters in the NWT on International Women’s Day.

By Dawn Skinner, PSAC North NWT Regional Women’s Committee   Period poverty is a pervasive issue in Canada and yet many of us may ask what period poverty is. In a nutshell, 'period poverty' refers to having a lack of access to sanitary products due to financial constraints. It has been called a great barrier to equality and low income, homeless and marginalized women bear the brunt of it.

On December 6, communities across Canada held vigils and events. It has been 30 years since the tragic mass shooting at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal (December 6, 1989) that saw the promising lives of 14 young women cut violently short. December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

  National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women    We invite all members and supporters to join PSAC North NWT Regional Women's Committee for December 6th vigil at Calvary Community Church on Friday, December 6th, 7 PM- 8 PM.    This event is organized by the Status of Women Council of the NWT.   

Members of PSAC North NWT Regional Women’s Committee joined Yellowknife's first Family Violence Awareness Month Solidarity March on November 6. The march was organized by the Status of Women Council of the NWT to kick off its Family Violence Awareness Month. Anne Walsh, Geraldine Penney and Nancy Lamb

PSAC North NWT Regional Indigenous Peoples Committee and Women's Committee partnered to sponsor the Sisters in Spirit luncheon on October 11.The luncheon was organized by the Native’s Women’s Association of the Northwest Territories.
