Message from the Regional Executive Vice President

My favourite Labour Day memory is serving burgers at our annual BBQ event while being surrounded by members, co-workers, friends and their families coming together to celebrate in solidarity. I’ve always felt the warmth of union spirit on this very special event. With solidarity vibes, this spirit would keep me inspired throughout the year. I miss all the in person conversations, events, gatherings and being with my union family.

We’re almost in September. Labour Day is knocking on the door.

Unfortunately, this Labour Day is different. It is important to respect and follow national and local health recommendations and measures. Please remember that we’re going through this together. While we won’t enjoy BBQ events together, let’s check on each other. Call or text folks whom you would have spent time together. Let’s stay connected. The pandemic has caused tremendous stress: financially, mentally and emotionally. But together, we will overcome all challenges.

Labour Day is an opportunity for us to thank Canada’s labour pioneers whose struggles paved the way for a strong union that defends workers’ rights and works for the interests and well-being of communities. Just like the labour movement's pioneers, workers now are shaping the future with their strength, sacrifice and resilience, especially during the pandemic.

Workers’ response to the pandemic showed us that heroes exist, and we don’t have to look far to find them. Next time we talk to our children about superheroes, let’s never forget to tell them about heroes striving to keep us healthy and safe. Members and non-members, thank you to all workers who continue to keep our communities healthy and safe, especially during these trying times.

Our PSAC regional and national teams have been working tirelessly to represent your interests. Office closures and health restrictions have not deterred our staff from representing you at all times nationally and regionally.

As you’re aware, PSAC North Triennial Regional Convention has been postponed. Our team is working together to finalize all details and information that will be posted on our website. Stay tuned.

To all sisters and brothers, happy Labour Day. Together we’re stronger.

In Solidarity,

Jack Bourassa

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy

As our communities are re-opening, it’s important that we work together to emerge safely by following international, national and regional health measures and recommendations. We call on you to stay tuned to updates posted on Yukon, NWT and Nunavut health websites:

Yukon:
https://yukon.ca/en/covid-19-information

Northwest Territories:
https://www.gov.nt.ca/covid-19/

Nunavut:

As schools reopen and many employees are returning back to workplaces, it is important to work together to ensure that our communities are healthy and safe. Wearing non-medical masks is a crucial preventative step that helps to protect everyone around us. In many places, we’re now required to wear masks, especially when a safe distance can’t be maintained. While doing so, let’s ensure that we’re wearing it correctly to help protect ourselves and those around us
