PSAC North Insights

January 2021

Message from the Regional Executive Vice President

Jack Bourassa and his furry friend Buddy
New Year marks new beginnings. We often talk about our resolutions, but I believe that every day is an opportunity to live the new beginnings and reflect back.

2020 was a tough year with all the challenges that we have been through. The uncertainty of the situation and not knowing how long it would take us to return to normal has put tremendous stress. As a union, we need each other’s support to stay strong. No matter what the situation is, we continue to represent our members and strive for workers’ rights. As social justice campaigners, we need to stand together and remain resilient despite the hardships. Despite the distance health restrictions imposed upon us, for the good of all, we remain connected.

There are not enough words to express my gratitude towards all frontline workers who stepped into harm’s way to protect our communities and ensure that we all have access to the services we need during these trying times. My heart goes out to all who have suffered physically, emotionally and/or mentally during the pandemic.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, and we shall soon return to normal. These stressful times proved
that our communities are resilient and strong. This year will be better for all.

We don't need New Year's resolutions for 2021 because every day brings new hopes and determination to work hard and serve our members and their communities in the North. At PSAC North, our team is busy planning the upcoming regional convention that will take place on May 28- 30. By postponing last year’s convention, we were hoping to meet in person as planned in Whitehorse. However, for the good of all and for the safety of our members and staff, the convention will be taking place virtually. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that all business is conducted in the best and most efficient manner. For more information and updates, stay tuned to our website.

While 2020 was a year of resiliency, 2021 is a year of hope. Together, we will emerge from this stronger.

Stay safe, stay healthy.

In Solidarity,

Jack Bourassa
