Campaigns in Nunavut

September 25, 2020 - 1:44pm
Orange Shirt Day (September 30) is dedicated to commemorating the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.    On this day, and every day, PSAC North continues to be committed to work for true reconciliation with Indigenous communities.     Together, let’s come in the spirit of reconciliation, hope and care for one another.    Take Action!
June 23, 2020 - 12:01pm
Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada North participated in a number of events throughout the North marking the fourth anniversary of the failed Phoenix pay system on February 27.  As work to stabilize Phoenix continues, PSAC members are still suffering its fallout. Endless payroll problems place a heavy burden on families.

Our democracy deserves a fair voting system. Every vote must count. The current “winner-take-all” voting system contradicts the fundamental democratic rights of being fairly represented in federal and provincial/territorial legislatures.

On February 28, PSAC will be holding a National Day of Action and we are looking for your participation.    Prior to February 28, 2018, we are asking that you organize an action in your workplace.  This could be a group picture with signs or statements of solidarity or any action in the workplace that could bring attention to this issue.
February 22, 2018 - 3:39pm
For almost two years PSAC members have been struggling with pay issues under the Phoenix pay system such as: no pay, incorrect pay, late pay as well as delays in providing emergency pay.  This has created financial and emotional hardships for many of our members. PSAC members across the country will be taking action to highlight the ongoing pay issues and pressure the federal government to address PSAC’s demands.

A new year begins and with it a new hope that the working lives of Northerners continue to improve. As I have mentioned in a previous column, PSAC North is today announcing that we are starting a new campaign to increase the legal minimum wage. In partnership with other labour organizations across the North, we are calling on all three governments to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2019.
October 11, 2017 - 12:24pm
Across the country there is an increasingly accepted view that raising the minimum wage is both socially responsible and of net benefit to the economy. Within the last year, the public discourse around this subject has shifted dramatically after progressive leadership in several provinces have either announced a $15/hr wage floor before 2020; or put plans in place to work toward that figure before 2020.
