Area Councils in Northwest Territories

PSAC North NWT Area Council donated $500 to the food bank in Hay River, in addition to $500 to Yellowknife Food Bank.  Dawna O’Brien delivering the cheque.   

There will be a PSAC North NWT Regional Area Council Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, November 14 at the PSAC Boardroom, North Star Building, Yellowknife. If you are not in Yellowknife, you can join us via our teleconference line.  For more information, please view the attached poster.   

PSAC North had a significant presence at Yellowknife Chamber Spring Trade Show (May 12- 13) with NWT’s PSAC North Regional Committees’ leaders, members and volunteers. Thousands attended the show as PSAC North booth featured campaigns and issues that affect our members and their communities, such as: living wage campaign, Phoenix pay system and universal childcare. Around 350 signed postcards and petitions addressing the issues above. The successful presence is the result of our dedicated volunteers’ hard work and commitment.  

There will be a PSAC North NWT Area Council Meeting on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the PSAC Boardroom in the North Star Building at Suite #201A 4910 53rd Street. Please see the attached poster for more details. 

There will be a PSAC Regional NWT Area Council Meeting at the North Star Building, PSAC Boardroom on Jan. 10.  The meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Plans for the meeting will include creating a budget and planning work for the upcoming year.

There will be a PSAC Area Council AGM on Wednesday, November 22 at 5:30 pm. The event will take place in the PSAC North boardroom in the North Star Building.  Please see the attached poster for more details. 

Jack Bourassa Regional Executive Vice President, PSAC North By now many labour organizations across the country have spoken out in condemnation of the acts that we all witnessed in Charlottesville, Virginia on Aug. 12. Given the tight-knit and diverse nature of our own community, I feel as REVP at PSAC North that we must not only denounce in the strongest terms what occurred, but moving forward, tackle the lingering impact of that weekend.

PSAC North, in collaboration with the NWT Chapter of the Council of Canadians, is organizing a teach-in* offered by Brenda Sayers on October 13th, 5:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for labour leaders and activists to learn about the impacts of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) on labour and public services. Please see attached poster announcing the event, and feel free to share it with colleagues and friends interested in labour rights and social justice.

Alternatives North and the Council of Canadians NWT Chapter staged the “We Can Do Better”  planning session September 19 in Yellowknife to  work toward  an NWT common front movement to promote social justice and plan actions to encourage northerners to vote.
